At the end of January 2025, Stanford Bird Club assisted Cape Nature with the CWAC (Co-ordinated Waterbird Count) at De Hoop Vlei in the Overberg, South Africa. The vlei covers 750 Ha and the count is a challenging undertaking with, on this occasion, over 9 500 birds counted. My previous video dealt with the CWAC count, but as there was little opportunity to film the birds, I returned in early February to film the waterbirds.
I camped at De Hoop Collection and there is a beautiful camp-site next to the vlei with all the amenities, including freezers so you can keep foodstuff cold. If you are a tent camper, Site 9 is a shaded comfortable site
