Nearly a week after their removal from the streets of Kampala’s central business district, displaced vendors have raised concerns that they are still grappling with how to stay in business. Kampala Capital City Authority maintained that space is available in gazetted markets such as Usafi Market, Busega Market, and Nakawa Market.
But a spot check by NTV Uganda reveals a mixed picture, as hundreds of stalls remain vacant, even as dozens of former street vendors slowly trickle into the markets. As David Ijjo reports, this raises fresh questions about whether the relocation plan is translating into full occupancy on the ground.
