Join us as we explore the Banan high-speed rail station in Chongqing, a surprisingly quiet hub despite serving over a million residents. This video offers a glimpse into local infrastructure, showcasing the efficiency of high speed train and the broader rail system. Discover the unique aspects of public transportation in this part of China, making it an interesting stop for china travel and train travel enthusiasts.
In this video I take a long drive through winding country roads to reach the spectacular glass‑and‑steel high‑speed rail station in Banan District, Chongqing — a district with over 1.17 million residents, yet the station sees only a handful of daily trains and very few passengers.
I explore the surroundings of this ultra‑modern station, try to get inside, and after the first train of the day arrives I count how many passengers exit.
Here are some hard facts: Banan District covers around 1,823 km² and has an urban population of approximately 977,000. Its terrain spans mountains, hills and floodplain as part of the southern Sichuan Basin.
The station was built to serve high‑speed rail but faces what’s called a “lamp under the bushel” dilemma: being so close (≈30 km) to the major hub Chongqing East Railway Station, it suffers from weaker train frequency and passenger volumes.
Join me for the drive, the station inspection, and the passenger‑count — see how one of China’s million‑plus‑populated districts ends up with a near‑empty high‑speed station.
