Hello friends! ♥️💕
Welcome back to the Channel!
As always - a massive THANK YOU to you all for your incredible support - it is so overwhelming and means so much! My cheeks ache from smiling…
Once again it is time to get our pattern drafting on!
This time come with me and create your Skirt Block to your own personal measurements! ✏️🪡🧵
If you have felt a little overwhelmed with pattern drafting, this is the perfect place to start! You only need 4 measurements to give this a try - your waist, hips, waist to hip length, and desired skirt length. You will find the usual written precis below, and don’t forget - if you need a hand, pop a comment below and I will endeavour to help! ♥️♥️♥️
Much love -

WRITTEN PRECIS -
Begin by drawing a rectangle. Height = your desired skirt length, width = 1/2 your Hip measurement + .5 inch + Dart width (our block will have two darts in the back, and one in the front, measuring .5 inches/a total of 1.5 inches for standard darts, or 1-inch each/a total of 3 inches for larger darts if the difference between your waist and hip measurements is greater than 10 inches).
Draw a vertical line down the centre of this rectangle, effectively cutting it in half - the left side will be the back of our skirt block, the right side will be the front!
Working on the Back Block to begin with, plot 1/4 of your waist measurement plus your back darts (1 or 2 inches) along the top of your rectangle from the upper left-hand corner towards the centre.
Mark .5 of an inch up from this point and draw a line from this point to the upper left-hand corner of your rectangle, forming your back waistline!
Measure this new waistline and divide it into thirds, marking each third.
Plot your waist to hip measurements downwards from both top corners of your rectangle, drawing a horizontal line - the hip line!
Create your back hip curve by drawing a curved line joining the edge of your waistline to the hip line on the vertical line at the centre of your pattern.
Create a guideline for your back darts by drawing a straight line between the same points. Using this line as a guide, draw parallel lines down from the two inner third marks you marked on the waistline earlier. The line closest to the hip curve should measure 5 inches long, the line farthest from the hip curve should measure 5.5 inches long, forming the lengths of your back darts.
To draw your darts, mark half of your dart width to either side of the marks on your waistline, joining these points to the tip of your dart lines with a straight ruler to create your darts!
Moving on to your Front Block, once again plot 1/4 of your waist measurement plus your one front dart (.5 or 1 inch) along the top of your rectangle, this time from the upper right-hand corner towards the centre.
Mark .5 of an inch up from this point and draw a line from this point to the upper right-hand corner of your rectangle, forming your front waistline!
As for the back, measure this new waistline and divide it into thirds, just marking the first third in from the centre line this time.
Create your front hip curve by drawing a curved line joining the edge of your waistline to the hip line at the centre of your pattern.
Again, create a dart guideline by drawing a straight line between these points, then drawing a parallel line from our marked third point of 4.75 inches to form the length of our front dart.
To draw the dart, plot half of its width on either side of the mark at the waistline, joining these marks to reach the point of our dart line, creating your front dart!
YOUR SKIRT BLOCK IS COMPLETE!
♥️💕
