Let’s discover the world of Bancha, Japan’s everyday green tea.
Unlike Sencha or Gyokuro, Bancha is made from later harvests, with larger and less delicate leaves. It’s a “humble” tea in Japan, yet full of history and cultural value.
In this video, we’ll explore unique regional Bancha teas:
Kyōbancha
Awa Bancha (lactic-fermented)
Sannen Bancha (aged for 3 years)
Goishicha (fermented and pressed)
Ishizuchi Kurocha
and the fascinating Furicha, a whisked Bancha served frothy in a bowl.
👉 In the West, Bancha became famous for being low in caffeine, but in Japan it is not considered a fine tea. I’ll explain why, and what makes it truly special.
🌿 Special Event:
On Sunday, October 5th at 11:00 (CET) there will be a free online Zoom lesson all about Bancha, led by my advanced students from the “Advanced Japan Module”.
Don’t miss this chance to learn about rare Bancha traditions and ask your questions live!
