The Abarth 209A Boano Coupé is a prototype created in 1955 by Abarth. Only one example was made, exhibited at the Louwman Museum.
In 1954 Mario Felice Boano, who was working at Ghia at the time, wanted to design a sports car intended for the American market. To achieve this, Boano turned to Carlo Abarth, with whom he had already collaborated previously. Boano designed the car with the help of Giovanni Michelotti. Abarth took care of the rest of the car, including the mechanics. Most of the components came from the Fiat 1100, including the suspension, gearbox and 1.1-liter engine. The car received some peculiar modifications produced by Abarth, such as the carburetors and the exhaust. The car had a power of 66 HP and reached a top speed of 186 km/h. Abarth had almost doubled the engine power, in fact the same unit mounted on the 110 delivered 36 HP.
The 209A was presented with the 208A at the Turin Motor Show in 1955, and was then exhibited in the same year at the Geneva Motor Show. It was also exhibited in America at the Chicago show. The official Abarth importer in the United States, Tony Pompeo, ordered twelve cars, one of which was the 209A Boano Coupé, but the car was never mass produced. The only 209A Boano Coupé produced, is on display at the Louwman Museum.
