Virtual reality testing provides better understanding of human brain

A series of immersive virtual reality experiments has now confirmed that the human brain’s internal navigation system works in the same fashion as the grid cell system, a specialized neural network, identified in a number of other mammals.
The experiments were performed by a research team headed by Tim McNamara, Vanderbilt professor of psychology and described in a recent issue of the journal Current Biology.
McNamara’s research findings provide an inkling of a better understanding of human cognition and perception and how that system works in the brain.
