Many parents know about some of the common ADHD symptoms in children: symptoms like hyperactivity, emotional dysregulation, lack of focus, etc. But did you know there is one common symptom that many parents didn’t even realize was related to their child’s ADHD?

That symptom is chewing on clothing or nails.

In the families I work with of kids with ADHD, this problem comes up time and time again. What we now know is that there are underlying stressors that often lead to this behavior: stressors like mineral deficiencies, gut infections, bacterial overgrowth, or parasites. When we are able to find these underlying stressors through functional lab testing, we can then work to heal the body through dietary changes and targeted supplementation.
