This time the American Viscountess, Julie Montagu visits Blair Castle in Scotland. The wild beauty and atmosphere of the Highland landscape so moved Queen Victoria and Prince Albert during their stay in 1844, that they went on to purchase their own highland retreat – Balmoral Castle.

Julie visits the archives of Blair Castle to discover how the Royal Household accompanied the Queen during her private stay. Julie meets RSM Graham Jack of the Atholl Highlanders to hear that Queen Victoria was guarded by the regiment in 1844, resulting in the Atholl Highlanders being presented with the Queens colours in 1845. Today, the Atholl Highlanders are the only remaining private army in Europe.
