The Lower Trout / Upper Wind combo is one of the classic winter runs of the Columbia Gorge. Following a huge rainstorm, flows dropped through the perfect range and I was able to catch them with 6.5' on the Stabler gauge. A few more inches would have been nice, but I love warming up on the low volume class 3-4 of Trout before hitting the big water Upper Wind. At this flow even the runout is pretty entertaining.
I made a point to run a bunch of different lines compared to this recent video showing similar flows. • Lower Trout Upper Wind 6.5' River Guide--B... . Some of these alternative lines worked better than others, but even when a new line isn't the best it's fun to experiment.
