Описание: In this second presentation of the Temporalities, Rhythms & Complexity Lab's 2024 Research Symposium Series « Exploring Rhythmanalysis as a Method », Dr. Stanley Blue explores what kind of phenomena are rhythms and how they might be studied. The starting point of his presentation addresses a critical passage in Lefebvre’s Rhythmanalysis: “Does the rhythmanalyst come close to the poet? Yes, to a large extent, more so than he does to the psychoanalyst, and still more so than he does to the statistician, who counts things and, quite reasonably, describes them in their immobility.” (Lefebvre, [1992] 2004: 11-12 23). Using example cases from studies of practising martial arts and the patterning of demand for energy, Dr. Blue argues that one can capture the rhythms of social life both through ‘deep’ auto-ethnography and statistical analyses, so long as one does not treat rhythms as a subject, object, or a relation. This lecture was recorded during a live webinar hosted by the Sunkhronos Institute, with an international audience. The discussion and Q&A that followed are not featured in this video.
