Arachnophobia is a thing, and many people are terrified of spiders. In Australia, when you walk outside at nighttime with a torch, you can literally find hundreds of spiders, both on the ground, hunting, and also building their webs suspended from trees, trapping. Most of these spiders are quite harmless even if you inadvertently come into contact with them. Spiders obviously serve a vital role in the ecosystem, controlling insects. This golden orb (?) spider was busily crafting its web for the night (they don't seem to last more than a night, strangely) whilst inverted, and it was magical and incredible to witness the ballet-like precision of eight legs all doing their thing far better than any Artificial Intelligence program could. Yep, spiders are quite harmless, mostly, and although they naturally give you a bit of a fright if you find one crawling on you, most species are quite harmless, and with a bit of research you can learn which ones to avoid and how to avoid them. I've actually been bitten numerous times without knowing it by spiders in long grass, finding strange puncture marks in my arms after the event with no ill effects, presumably from harmless spiders getting a fright as I brush past them.
