This is a tutorial on how to make a DIY Harry Potter acceptance letter travelers notebook cover. Also called midori notebooks or fauxdori notebooks. These covers have elastics that allow you to insert a soft cover notebook or catchier notebook. In the travelers notebook world they are just called “inserts”. You can buy them online in your preferred size or easily make your own by cutting and folding paper to your size notebook (use a straight edge and craft knife to keep the edges even or leave them uneven is fine too). This is a great system for planners and especially bullet journaling. I like to have one insert for each section of my bullet journal. I have an art journal insert, a list journal insert, a monthly calendar insert with the whole year on it, a weekly planner, and a habit tracker insert. I also have pocket inserts for cards and pens and receipts etc. if you don’t want to carry a lot one day, you can take out some to lighten your load. It’s so flexible.
ELASTIC THREADING SEQUENCE:
top three holes are #’s 1, 2, and 3 left to right. Bottom are 4, 5, and 6 left to right.
Staring inside your journal with envelope top pointing right: OUT 1 IN 2 OUT 5 IN 6 OUT 3 IN 2 OUT 5 IN 4 THEN TIE.

MATERIALS:
-White leather or vinyl
-fabric glue or spray glue if your vinyl is thin and want to double it up
-Craft knife and straight edge or fabric scissors
-ruler
-red polymer clay
-Hogwarts wax seal
-flat metal button
-your choice size notebook inserts
-clear elastic
-large eyed needle or thread with a piece of thin wire folded
-laser printed guide sheet (print at print shop if you don’t have a laser printer, above this list is the link to the guide already mirror imaged for you)
(This method only for vinyl. For leather use carbon paper transfer and trace tover to to transfer guide, then either a leather paint or a wood pruning tool on low level)another possibility for transfer is making a guide with a cricut or silhouette machine and of course laser engraving if it’s leather and you have access, but who does right?
-fine and ultra fine sharpie or alcohol ink marker
-100% acetone
-matte acrylic sealer (I used liquitex brand. Modge Podge would work as well, must be flexible)
