This cross-assembly webinar brings together three experts to discuss practical strategies for communicating science in today's challenging landscape. Mary Rice, MD, MPH, Pulmonologist and Director of Harvard Chan C-CHANGE, Santiago Gisler, PhD, Science Communication Researcher, and Jonathan Samet, MD, MS, Pulmonologist and Professor of Epidemiology and Occupational and Environmental Health; Past Dean, Colorado School of Public Health, will share evidence-based approaches for effectively communicating research, building public trust, countering misinformation, and engaging with skeptical audiences.
The 90-minute session will feature a moderated panel discussion (60 Minutes) covering topics including: understanding audience psychology, navigating politicized science, handling misinformation and hostile audiences, practical communication skills for ECPs, and balancing scientific accuracy with accessibility. The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A session (30 Minutes).
This collaborative effort is organized by the Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology (RCMB), Respiratory Structure and Function (RSF), Critical Care (CC), Environmental, Occupational and Population Health (EOPH) and Pediatric (PEDS) assemblies within the ATS Early Career Professionals Working Group, targeting early career researchers across all assemblies.
