Do I Use a Clean Jar for My Sourdough Starter Every Feeding?

Alright… so we've all seen those IG videos where people perfectly measure out their sourdough starter into a gorgeous clean jar before feeding it. To be honest, I would never stick with baking sourdough if I had to keep cleaning that jar everyday. So the question people ask is "How do you know how much starter is in the jar?" The answer is you really don't! Sourdough starter is super rugged. You will not kill it by not feeding it in an exact 1:1:1 ratio. Here's what I do:
✨Dump out or use enough starter so that when I feed it it doesn't fill up more than half the jar. I need it to have room to grow.
✨Or if I know I need a certain about of starter for something I'm baking, I just eyeball it. So if I know I need 200g of starter I try to get around (this doesn't need to be exact) 100 g of starter in my jar and then feed it 100 g flour and 100 g water. That way when I use it I will have 100 g leftover to feed again.
✨ If your starter is watery and not growing a lot, you probably aren't feeding it enough
✨If it rises super slow… you probably are feeding it too much.
*** neither of these things will kill it!
