Описание: It’s Wednesday the 25th of February 2026, and I’m at Stratford. For some context, Stratford station was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1839 on their line between Romford and a temporary terminus at Mile End terminus. In 1862, the ECR would be absorbed into the Great Eastern Railway. During the 19th, Stratford would be established as an important junction with multiple lines in East London converging at the station. During the mid-20th century, Stratford would finally join the London Underground network when the central line would take over line to Epping in 1946. During the 1950s, electrification of the Great Eastern mainline would commence with the first section from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield with this section using the 1500 DC OHLE system already in use on the Woodhead route. Progressive extensions would be electrified at 6.25KV AC instead. During the 1970s, the route would be converted to 25KV AC in stages and with new extensions being completed to this standard. In 1987, the Docklands Light Railway would open, creating a link between Stratford and the new business district at Canary Wharf as a part of regeneration schemes in the area.

This would be followed up by the arrival of the Jubilee line in 1999, creating an East West link between Stratford and Stanmore, allowing for improved links to major destinations such as Waterloo, Canary Wharf and Westminster. In 2011, the DLR branch to Stratford International would open, taking over the North London line branch to North Woolwich. Improving service on the line. Starting in 2015, TfL would start taking over commuter services on the GEML and GWML in preparation for Crossrail (Elizabeth Line).
