Path To The Draft: UNC LB Cole Holcomb

One of the players currently training at XPE leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft is Cole Holcomb, a versatile linebacker from North Carolina, who is expected to turn heads at the Tar Heels pro day on March 25th.

A three-year starter, Holcomb accumulated 327 career tackles during his UNC career, including 15.5 tackles for loss, 12 pass deflections, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He recently competed in the East-West Shrine Game, where he measured in at 6012 and 233 pounds. A strong week of practice and solid game performance had NFL scouts circling back to his game film to check out the New Smyrna Beach product.

An incredible athlete, Holcomb demonstrates elite-level speed, agility and flexibility. His lateral quickness allows him to cover a tremendous amount of ground laterally and serve as an effective run-stuffer but it’s his closing speed that is considered to be his greatest attribute. Holcomb was praised by his coaches this past season for his leadership role, guiding an underclassmen-heavy program after a sneaker scandal which led to numerous player suspensions.

NFL trainer Tony Villani, who has been helping pro athletes transition to the next level for over 20 years, told NFL Draft Scout that Holcomb is going to test as well as any linebacker he has ever trained and compared his speed to Zach Brown, another former Tar Heel who ran a 4.50 forty-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
