Описание: 잠수교(潛水橋)는 서울특별시 용산구 서빙고동과 서초구 반포동을 연결하는 2층 교량인 반포대교의 아래층 교량으로 1975년 9월에 착공, 1976년 7월에 준공한 한강의 9번째 다리이다. 잠수교는 다른 교량이 수위로부터 16~20m 높이에 건설된 것과 달리 2.7m 위치에 놓여 장마시에는 물에 잠기도록 설계되었다.

준공 당시에는 바지선의 통행을 위한 수평식 승개장치(昇開裝置)를 운용하였으나, 1986년 한강종합개발이 수립됨에 따라 유람선이 다닐 수 있도록 교량의 중앙부를 아치형으로 올려 개조하였다. 잠수교는 경부고속도로의 교통을 서울 도심부에 연결하는 역할을 수행하며, 아울러 홍수시 한강의 수위를 알려주는 역할도 맡고 있다.

잠수교는 길이 1,225m, 너비 18m의 교량으로 상부에는 강상판형과 RC슬래브형이 적용되었으며, 하부 구조에는 라멘식 및 T형 교각이, 기초 형식에는 우물통기초가 각각 적용되었다. 2008년 교량 노후화로 인해 잠수교는 왕복 2차선으로 차선을 축소하고 통행속도를 시속 60km에서 시속 40km로 제한하는 한편, 자전거 및 보행자 전용도로를 조성하여 강남북의 접근성을 높였다.

잠수교는 서울특별시에서 추진한 강남지구 도시개발촉진책의 일환으로 건설된 교량으로 한국전쟁 당시 한강인도교 폭파 경험을 바탕으로 유사시를 대비해 가설된 다리이다. 잠수교는 또 집중 호우에 따른 한강의 수위 변화를 직관적으로 보여주는 교량으로 지속적인 관리를 통해 보존해야 할 도로시설물이다.

Jamsu Bridge (잠수교, 潛水橋) is the lower-level bridge of Banpo Bridge, a two-tier bridge that connects Seobinggo-dong in Yongsan-gu and Banpo-dong in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Construction began in September 1975 and was completed in July 1976, making it the ninth bridge over the Han River. Unlike other bridges built 16 to 20 meters above the water level, Jamsu Bridge was placed at a height of only 2.7 meters, designed to be submerged during the rainy season.

At the time of its completion, a horizontal lift device was installed to allow barges to pass. However, with the implementation of the Han River Comprehensive Development Project in 1986, the central section of the bridge was remodeled into an arch shape to allow cruise ships to pass. Jamsu Bridge serves as a connection between the Gyeongbu Expressway and downtown Seoul, while also functioning as an indicator of the Han River’s water level during floods.

The bridge measures 1,225 meters in length and 18 meters in width. Its superstructure consists of steel plate girders and reinforced concrete slabs, while the substructure employs rigid-frame and T-shaped piers, with caisson foundations. In 2008, due to aging, the bridge’s lanes were reduced to two in each direction, and the speed limit was lowered from 60 km/h to 40 km/h. At the same time, dedicated bicycle and pedestrian lanes were added to improve accessibility between the northern and southern parts of Seoul.

Jamsu Bridge was built as part of Seoul’s Gangnam District urban development initiative and, drawing on the experience of the Han River Bridge explosion during the Korean War, was constructed as a precautionary measure in case of emergencies. It also serves as a visible gauge of water level fluctuations in the Han River during heavy rains and remains an infrastructure asset that requires ongoing preservation and maintenance.
