"Holiday" is a song performed by American singer Madonna, included on her self-titled debut album. The record company Sire Records released it on September 7, 1983 as the third single from the album, and it appeared on the remix album You Can Dance (1987) and on the compilations The Immaculate Collection (1990) and Celebration (2009). Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens of the band Pure Energy composed the song, while John "Jellybean" Benítez produced it. The latter was offered to Madonna when she was looking for a potential hit for her debut album and, after accepting it, they were in charge of changing the composition by adding a piano solo, performed by her friend, the musician Fred Zarr. "Holiday" features instruments such as guitars, electronic handclaps, a cowbell, and a synthesized string arrangement, while the lyrics express the universal feeling that everyone needs a break.
