Gambys, criado para Windows 95/MS-DOS pela Viagem Interactive e distribuído pela Portidata, foi lançado em Dezembro de 1995 e foi o primeiro videojogo português a utilizar uma paleta de +65000 cores, compatível com placas gráficas SVGA. Este jogo único de estratégia e puzzle foi vendido em Portugal e em algumas cidades espanholas, estando disponível nas lojas ibéricas entre 1995 e 2001. De acordo com o artista gráfico Luís Peres, ele quase foi expandido para outros mercados internacionais com a Psygnosis, mas acabou por não se concretizar devido ao lançamento do Windows 95 no mercado mundial e às preocupações com a estrutura DOS do software e a futura compatibilidade.

A história é sobre o Planeta Terra à beira do colapso devido à poluição criada pelo ser humano. Os Gambys bons escolhem um humano (o jogador) para ajudá-los a restaurar a ordem natural da natureza, restaurando fotografias da vida selvagem ao destruir blocos selados com a ajuda dos Gambys e algumas ferramentas exclusivas para uso humano. Para impedir a cura da Terra, os Gambys maus tentarão de tudo para atrapalhar tanto os Gambys bons quanto o jogador.

O Gambys pode ser jogado em português, inglês, francês, alemão e espanhol. Vou jogar o jogo completo em português, mas também vou gravar a introdução do jogo, as descrições das personagens e os demos nos outros idiomas para mostrar e facilitar o entendimento do mesmo para um público mais vasto. Joga-se apenas com um rato, com a possibilidade de configurá-lo para canhotos nas definições do Menu Principal.

Este vídeo mostra a introdução e a descrição das personagens em Português Europeu.

Observações técnicas: Acredito que algum do texto é suposto apresentar uma cor amarela, e não em vermelho. Pode ser uma limitação da versão 0.74 do DOSBox. Gravei esta intro na sua versão de +65000 porque a emulação a 256 não mostra a secção dos Agradecimentos.

Gambys, made for Windows 95/MS-DOS by Viagem Interactive and distributed by Portidata, was launched in December 1995 and it was the first Portuguese videogame to be played with a +65000 colour pallet, supporting SVGA graphic cards. This unique strategy and puzzle game was sold in Portugal and a few Spanish cities, being around Iberian shops more or less between 1995-2001. According to the graphic artist Luís Peres, it nearly got expanded to other international markets with Psygnosis but it ended not happening because of the incoming Windows 95 launch in the world market and their concerns about the DOS structure of the software and its future compatibility.

The story's about Planet Earth about to collapse due to pollution created by man kind. The Good Gambys choose a human (the player) to help them fix nature's natural order by restoring wild life photographs by destroying sealed blocks with the help of the Gambys and a few tools for exclusive human use. To prevent Earth's healing, Bad Gambys will try everything to disrupt both the Good Gambys and the player.

Gambys can be played in Portuguese, English, French, German and Spanish. I will play the whole game in Portuguese but I'll also record the game's intro, character descriptions and demos in the other languages to show and make it easier to understand for a wider audience. The game's played with a mouse, with the possibility to set it up for left-handers in the Main Menu's settings.

This video shows the intro and character descriptions in European Portuguese.

Technical notes: I believe that some of the text is supposed to be yellow, not red. This may be a limitation of DOSBox version 0.74. I recorded this intro in its +65000 version because the 256 emulation does not show the Thanks section.
