Boreal Trail, Meadow Lake Provincial Park, Saskatchewan - Day One, West Trail Head to Sandy Beach

Описание: Eeeeevvvaaa!! At long last, after almost exactly 1 year, Pivot and Desert Moon are back together!! 🥰

This time, our adventures find us on the Boreal Trail, in Saskatchewan’s hidden gem of a Provincial Park…Meadow Lake!

While Desert Moon and I were trudging up 9mile climbs in Nor Cal and Washington on the PCT in 2023, we began to day dream about what it would be like to backpack the flattest trail we could find in Canada 😂. It might of began as a joke, but I love a challenge, and I love to research and plan…and the joke took hold as a real idea!
Soon after returning home from the PCT I began my search for the flattest backpacking trail that would be at least a 5 day adventure. And what I found was very little 😂. But after a little digging, I found a relatively new backpacking route, a connections of trails within the Meadow Lake Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, that covers approximately 130 kms of area!
Now I absolutely can not say for certain that this IS the flattest backpacking trail in the entirety of Canada… but it is relatively flat, long enough to meet my criteria…and it’s in Saskatchewan 😂, which is known to be our flattest province! So for our purposes…we found it!!!

It took quite a bit of frustrating research to plan out this adventure, as there is still very few resources out there for good intel. It is a hidden gem! No far out app to help. Only a couple of incomplete tracks on AllTrails. And one decently helpful Facebook group! Having said that, the creator of the trail ( who we actually got to meet!) is working on developing getting more information about the trail out there. The best resource we had were the actual physical trail maps, which our trail angle Lindsay graciously lent us for the journey…and thank goodness as we switched up our original itinerary almost completely! 😳😂

I can not tell you how absolutely exstatic I was to be back together with Desert Moon.🥰. She is my other half, and I had not realized how incomplete I felt without her. I think the big smile on my face all of day one showed just how happy I was to be with my trail bestie once again!

This was not an adventure full of epic mountainous views or challenging big climbs…instead it was about the small things, the simple things, enjoying the moments and each others company.

I hope you enjoy this series, if only for watching us be together again, but I do also hope you feel inspired to check out this amazing trail, in an amazing place that the parks officials figure only a small handful of hikers thru hike the entire trail per year!
