UK lagging behind on reducing stillbirth rates

Hundreds of women across the UK are suffering the trauma of losing their child late in pregnancy or at birth - when it could have been avoided. That's the finding of a global study, that ranks this country as one of the worst in the world at tackling the problem.
Every year, it's estimated that 2 thousand 2 hundred babies die in the UK shortly before or during labour.
The report by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine also puts the UK at 21st out of 186 nations when it comes to rates of stillbirths - that's worse than many other wealthy countries.
And according to the same research, the UK is not reducing rates nearly fast enough. In the rankings for improving survival, the UK is in 114th place.
And, tragically - researchers say with better care, almost half, of all cases could be prevented.
