I spent my “birthday month” in Oaxaca de Juarez (the capitaI of the Mexican state) and tried just about everything it has to offer! These were my favorite experiences:
▶️ Admire the street art in both Xochimilco & Barrio de Jalatlaco
▶️ Take a garden tour @jardinetnobotanicodeoaxaca (a must for plant lovers!)
▶️ Eat ALL the traditional Oaxacan food (mole, tlayudas, memelas…yes, please!)
▶️ Take a day trip to Hierve el Agua for epic views
▶️ Get creative with a wood engraving workshop to learn this traditional form of printmaking (I did mine @20_20artecontemporaneo)
▶️ Learn to cook like a local in a cooking class (@doscorazonesbychefadhey will teach you traditional recipes handed down from her grandmother—and they’re AMAZING!)
▶️ Visit a mezcal palenque & sip straight from the source!
▶️ Cheer on the wrestlers at Lucha Libre (this was so much more fun than I had expected!)
▶️ Shop the markets for souvenirs, mole and pottery!
▶️ Tour the ancient ruins of Monte Albán
