The Process
This video describes the process behind Simpson's Rule and how it is used to approximate definite integrals. It explains how Simpson's Rule uses a series of parabolas to approximate pairs of strips under a function and how it is essential that an even number of strips are used for the estimation.
The Equation
The video describes, in detail, each part of the Simpson's Rule equation and applies it to a sketched function. It explain how the width of the strips, h, is calculated and how to identify the the 1st height, the odd and even heights, and the last height where a height is the function evaluated at an x co-ordinate.
The Application
The video use uses the function y = 2^^x with 4 strips to demonstrate the application of Simpson's rule. It demonstrates how to calculate h, the 1st and last heights and how to determine and calculate the odd and even heights.
