Kerning and tracking allow you to alter the horizontal space between type characters. Depending on the character pairings, the space may often require adjusting with kerning. To remove unsightly gaps between them. For example, the letters R and O in the word royal. Tracking is often used to modify the space equally between larger blocks of text. And often used to prevent single words.
Carrying over to a new column at the end of a paragraph or the last line of a paragraph. Occupied by a single word shown here with an entire paragraph selected. When the tracking value is reduced. It carries that last word back onto the line above.
