A group of petitioners in Manafwa District who contested for LC III chairperson, LC III and LC V councilor seats, and other positions have voiced frustration over what they describe as the failure of the Manafwa Sub-committee Tribunal to resolve disputes from the recently concluded NRM primaries.
The aggrieved petitioners include Stephen Kutosi Mwenyi, who contested for LC V councilor for Weswa Sub-county; Namae Doreen, who vied for LC III councilor for Bumufuni in Khabutoola Sub-county; and Musungu Julius, a candidate for mayor of Butiru Town Council.
They claim the elections in their areas were marred by irregularities, including inflated voter registers, missing declaration forms, and rejection of results from certain polling stations.
The petitioners say they submitted their grievances to the district leadership, which set up a tribunal yesterday evening to handle the disputes. However, they were informed this morning that the head office had directed the Manafwa Sub-committee not to handle.
Retired Canal George Nambafu, who chaired the tribunal, confirmed receiving instructions from the NRM district chairperson, relaying a directive from the party’s main branch. He explained that the tribunal had no mandate to nullify elections but could only advise petitioners to either run as independents or rally behind the winners of the primaries
