Note choice is important, absolutely, but many guitarists look towards new scales or shapes when feeling uninspired or bored with their playing. If you have the right scale for a particular situation, simply playing those same notes somewhere else on the neck probably won’t fix what you are not happy with. Interesting phrasing is as much (or arguably more) about rhythm, space, dynamics...
that’s a side of the melodic puzzle that can be trickier to “practice”. So here’s a simple idea that might help jump start some new ideas. No theory or thinking involved... stick with me, the playing gets slightly less mundane at about 5:30, but it’s the concept that’s the payoff.
