Описание: Our next objectives were the volcanic Katutau Mountains and the multi-coloured Aktau Mountains. Our first stop were the Katutau Mountains. The Katutau Mountains are the largest and highest desert mountains of Altyn-Emel. The solidified lava of a large extinct volcano has taken bizarre forms here. After our look around we continued to the Aktau cretaceous mountains. The Aktau Mountains are one of the main attractions of the Altyn-Emel National Park. It is a unique open-air geological "museum" created about 145 million years ago. The Aktau Mountains are thick sedimentary deposits of a dried-up ancient ocean of the Cretaceous era in the form of banded rocks of various colors. We much enjoyed two days of hiking the gorges and mountain tops. As we left we visited the Kosbastau oasis. There a 700 year old willow tree is the main attrraction. We however enjoyed the warm radon spring in the oasis to freshen up. Our next destination also lies in the Altyn-Emel park.
