The captain of a cargo ship that collided with an oil tanker in the North Sea has appeared in court charged with gross negligence manslaughter over the death of a crew member.
The Portuguese-flagged Solong and US-registered tanker Stena Immaculate crashed off the East Yorkshire coast on Monday.
Vladimir Motin, 59, from St Petersburg, Russia, captain of the Solong, did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody by Hull magistrates to appear before the Central Criminal Court in London on 14 April.
A 38 year old Filipino crew member on the Solong, Mark Angelo Pernia, is missing, presumed dead.
