Maharaja Abhay Singh of Jodhpur in Rajasthan wanted to build a new palace. But, Amrita Devi Bishnoi sacrificed her life along with the people of her community to protect the Khejadli trees. Khejadli tree has been very sacred for the Bishnoi community. Maharaja Abhay Singh sent his soldiers to Khejadli village to cut the tree. Leading the Bishnoi community, Amrita Devi stopped the Maharaja's people from cutting the tree. As soon as Abhay Singh's men picked up axes to cut the tree, Amrita Devi grabbed a tree.
