“Yellow” is the fifth track and second single from Coldplay’s 2000 debut album Parachutes. It is one of their oldest and most enduring hits, continuing to be a celebrated staple of live performances even today.
The narrator is mesmerized by the actions of the person they are singing for; the person is the center of their universe, and there is only light in this world because of their existence.
Chris Martin revealed in an interview with Howard Stern that the genesis of this song was him imitating Neil Young and singing the phrase “look at the stars” in his most “Neil Young-y” voice.
