In this video, we're building the cheapest and easiest synth ever using a 555 Timer module! It’s raw, lo-fi, and as you'll see, not everything went according to plan. If you are familiar with the Atari Punk Console synth, this is a stripped down version. From breadboarding the circuit to hacking the built-in trim pots, we’ll explore how to turn this simple chip into a tiny synth. Along the way, we’ll deal with torn traces, questionable soldering, and some happy accidents. If you’re into DIY electronics, synths, or just making weird sounds then this one’s for you!
For the wiring the prototype:
• Connect the negative wires for the battery and piezo to the GND pin on the module
• Connect the positive wire for the battery to the VCC pin on the module
• Connect the positive wire of the piezo to the OUT pin on the module
For the wiring the cassette synth:
• Connect the negative wires for the battery and audio jack to the GND pin on the module
• Connect the positive wire for the battery to the VCC pin on the module
• Connect the tip of the audio jack to a button, the other leg of the button to a 47k resistor (any value from 10k-100k), and finally to the OUT pin on the module. Jack to button to resister to OUT pin
