This beautifully restored Dean Castle, displays impressive armour, weapons, old musical instruments, tapestries and more. There's even a 'secret room' if you can find it ... and it's all free to explore!
The castle was once the stronghold of the Boyd family for over 400 years. King Robert the Bruce granted the land to the Boyds in the 14th century. The castle was ruined by a fire in 1735, then in the early 20th century restored by Thomas Evelyn Scott Ellis, the 8th Lord Howard de Walden.
You might recognise the castle from the historical drama television series Outlander - Season 2, Episode 8, The Fox's Lair. The Dean Castle stood in for Beaufort Castle near Beauly in the Highlands, when Jamie and Claire visited Lord Lovat, Jamie's Grandfather.
There's a cafe, gift shop, rural life centre, animals, playpark, beautiful woodland walks around the country park, and more!
