The Utah Million Hearts Coalition, in conjunction with the national Centers for Disease Control Million Hearts® initiative, aims to prevent heart attacks and strokes by improving blood pressure measurement and control. The coalition is working toward this goal by encouraging and recognizing excellence in hypertension management. The current focus is on improving the accuracy of blood pressure measurement in Utah.
High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke in the United States, and contributes to almost 350,000 deaths annually. Measuring blood pressure accurately is the first step in improving hypertension management.
