What do you do when you run out of assembly lube in the middle of your build, and the nearest auto parts store is too far away at these gas prices? Well here's a little trick I learned from my grandpa up on the Ranch that I thought I'd pass on to you. The oil I'm using it called Hy-Trans, its transmission oil for Vintage Tractors that actually use the Transmission Oil for the Hydraulics as well. It has about the same properties as STP (give or take a lot of science I don't understand) and absorbs into the metal creating a good lube for that 1st start up. But Beware, it's only temporary, and it doesn't last too long once you apply it. I say in here that you only have a couple days, but I've actually gotten away with a week if needed, but keep it in your mind that once you do this, get it in there, Prime it Really Really Really good with the Drill (on the oil pump drive) and get it started as soon as possible to get real oil up and going in there before this stuff totally dissipates. I wouldn't use this on a high end build by any means, but in a pinch on a basic stock engine that you know you are going to get it going asap..... it's never let me down (knock on wood).
I hope that helps someone out there and it's one more step toward getting this 1977 #BigBlockFord 460 (7.5L) from that old Motorhome swapped into this 1958 Ford Fairlane for the #NoNameNationals this coming Sept 30th & Oct 1st.
