2025 IU Senior Awards: Herman B Wells Award

Описание: Grant Newman is the 2025 recipient of the Herman B Wells Award.

Herman B Wells served as president of Indiana University from 1937 to 1962, and then as
chancellor until his death in 2000. A beloved leader of uncommon vision and generosity,
his legacy continues to permeate every corner of the university. The Indiana Memorial
Union Board of Directors created the award in 1961 to honor an outstanding senior who has
excelled academically and is an established leader within the IU community.

Grant Newman came to IU with a Provost’s Scholarship and is an internal Wells Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in biochemistry, neuroscience, and Spanish. He was
a three-year recipient of the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship through the U.S.
Department of Education, a Critical Language Scholar with the U.S. Department of State, and
recipient of the Dr. R. J. Grim Award and David R. Barkmeier Award for academic excellence.
During the summer of 2022, he studied the relationship between culture and health care in
Ghana through the Hutton Honors International Experiences Program. His summer research
experiences in chemistry were supported by the Harry G. Day Fellowship as well. He has
remained actively involved with the Bloomington community and founded an organization
that works to combat overdose incidences on campus
