The Lagos State Government has inaugurated the 80m Clean Cookstoves Project Working Group, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's climate and economic transformation.

The project aims to deploy 80 million highly efficient clean cookstoves across Nigeria, generating 1.2 billion tonnes of compliance carbon offsets and creating over 35 million green jobs.

The project will be anchored in Lagos State, with the first 6 million free clean cookstoves to be distributed starting in June 2025, beginning in Makoko.

This was disclosed on Monday by Mrs Titilayo Oshodi, the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a press briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The initiative aligns with the State's THEMES+ agenda, unlocking new sources of sustainable revenue, green investments, and long-term economic development.

Revolutionizing Climate Action:

The 80M Clean Cookstoves Project is a bold economic, social, and environmental blueprint that will improve the health and well-being of millions of Nigerians, especially women and children. The project will also establish a forex-denominated, sovereign green endowment fund for sustainable development and create a structured, compliance-driven carbon trading framework through the Lagos Carbon Exchange (LCX).
