I came face to face with a common European adder in a forest in Kangasala, Finland. It’s the only venomous reptile in the country and it’s also the northernmost snake species in the world. Its venom is a hemotoxin and not really lethal to humans, unless you are allergic to insect bites, but it will still make you feel very sick for a week or so, and in rare cases – for up to a year!
