The white of your eye is known as sclera.
A corneal ulcer is an open sore on the cornea.
It helps in focusing the objects while seeing.
Corneal ulcer is a medical emergency if not treated in time, it may cause complete vision loss.
Visit your ophthalmologist immediately if you have symptoms of it.
Symptoms of corneal ulcer
Decrease in vision over a period of hours to few days.
Red eye
Severe eye pain
Feeling that something is in your eye
Tears
Pus or thick discharge from draining from your eye
Blurry vision
Swollen eyes
In case of large ulcer a white round spot on the cornea is visible.
Causes of corneal ulcer
Most corneal ulcers are caused by infections
Bacterial infections
Viral infections
Fungal infections
May happen after injury with organic material such as branches or twigs.
Disorders that cause dry eyes.
Can leave your eyes without the germ-fighting protection or tears affect the eyelid that prevents your eye from closing completely.
Can dry your cornea and make it more vulnerable to ulcers.
Chemical burn or other caustic solution splashes.
People who wear lenses are at an increased risk of corneal ulcers.
Bacteria may be on the lens or in your cleaning solutions.
Wearing contact lenses for long time can block oxygen to the cornea.
Self care at home
If you wear lenses remove them immediately.
Apply cool compresses to the affected eye.
Do not touch or rub your eye with your fingers.
Limit spreading infection by washing your hands often

Medications are used to get rid of infection.
