1. Javier and David are imprisoned

After the chaotic events of Episode 3, Javier and David are thrown into a cell by Joan’s regime in Richmond.
Joan is now fully in control and wants to remove David from leadership.

Clementine helps Javier plan an escape, and together they break out of the cell.

2. Preparing for a confrontation with Joan

Javier reunites with:

Kate

Gabe

Tripp/Eleanor (depending on choices)

Clementine

The group realizes Joan is planning a public execution to solidify her power.

Javi works with different Richmond residents to decide how to respond:

Negotiate with Clint for peace

Or prepare to fight Joan’s forces
These choices shape how the final confrontation plays out.

3. Clementine’s major flashback

Episode 4 continues Clem’s backstory:

She remembers searching for AJ, discovering he was extremely sick, and learning The New Frontier took him away for “treatment.”
This deepens her anger and her determination to fight Joan’s corrupt leadership.

4. David’s emotional breakdown

Family tension rises:

David becomes unstable and jealous (especially about Kate).

Gabe struggles between siding with his father or Javier.

Kate wants to leave Richmond, but David wants to save it.

Javier must make difficult choices about whether to support or oppose David’s plans.

5. The execution scene — chaos erupts

Joan holds a public tribunal where she plans to execute either:

Tripp, or

Ava
depending on earlier choices.

Even if Javier chooses to negotiate, Joan betrays the deal and kills the one she promised to spare.

This triggers a violent gunfight.

6. Richmond collapses into battle

Kate drives a truck through the barricade to rescue everyone, but the truck hits fuel supplies and causes a massive explosion, releasing a herd of walkers into Richmond.

In the chaos:

Joan may escape or be killed (depending on choices).

David attacks a soldier and beats him brutally.

Gabe runs after David.

The group becomes split apart.

Javier must choose whether to chase:

David & Gabe, or

Stay with Kate

The decision shapes Episode 5 dramatically.

7. Cliffhanger ending

The episode ends with:

Richmond burning

Walkers flooding the streets

The group separated

Javier forced to choose between family, leadership, and survival
