Modern compound bows have several mechanical advantages over traditional bow technology. To get the most consistency out of a compound bow most compound bow archers elect to forgo the traditional finger release, wherein the string is drawn and released directly from fingertips, in favor of a mechanical release aid, usually referred to simply as a “release.” Rather than clip the release directly to the bow string it is more common to install and use what is known as a “D-loop.” The D-loop is a short length of cordage tied onto the main string above and below the nock point and gives the release a solid, consistent place to clip into. Alex Azeredo walks through the steps he uses to install a nock point and D-loop to be ready for the season.
