Today is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. The Gospel proclaims how the birth of our Lord Jesus came about. It is the time to reflect on the figure of Joseph, which the Gospel highlights.
Joseph, in his righteousness, “decided to divorce [Mary] quietly” because Mary “was found with child.” Now, Joseph at that time did not know it was “through the Holy Spirit.” Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, elucidating the mystery to him.
We know Joseph believed when “he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” He took Mary, his wife, into his home. He named God’s son, their son, Jesus.
Friends, as we set to conclude the Advent season, let us look to Joseph. Let him be our inspiration and guide to wake up and follow God’s word.
