On Friday, Odisha's Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, shared the State Budget for the 2026-27 financial year. It's a big budget, adding up to ₹3.10 lakh crore. A lot of this money is set aside for spending on big projects, called 'capital expenditure,' which is ₹72,100 crore. This project money makes up 23.3% of the total budget and is also equal to 6.5% of the state's total economic size (Gross State Domestic Product).
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to get rid of cash payments at all National Highway toll booths across the country. This is part of their effort to move to a fully digital toll collection system, and they're aiming for this to happen by April 1, 2026.
