Описание: Challenging the Status Quo: Taking Libraries into the Future (Webinar 2) Creating a better World! How academic librarians are tackling SDGs

Academic librarians by nature and profession tend to be thrifty and environmentally aware. For decades, they have been the inspiration for many micro environmental initiatives. When in 2015 the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations Member States, academic librarians embraced its principles with both enthusiasm and pragmatism. The Agenda provides a blueprint designed to end poverty, protect the planet and deliver universal peace and prosperity - all by 2030! At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), urgent calls to action.

However, librarians are already juggling many responsibilities to support their patrons. They need to find ways of supporting and delivering on the SDG goals sustainably.

Three speakers will explain the implications of sustainable development for academic libraries, discuss why they believe that SDGs should be top of every librarian’s agenda and share initiatives undertaken by universities to make the world a better place.

Keynote Speaker: Barbara Lison, who is President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and has been the Director of Bremen Public Library since 1992.

Barbara Lison will be joined by two panellists, Tuba Akbayturk, Library Director at Koç University and head of 5 Turkish libraries and Martin O’Driscoll, Learning Spaces Co-Ordinator and Chair of the Sustainability Committee, University College, Cork.
