Hazem Matar is a toxicology and hazardous materials (HazMat) researcher and expert who works with the University of Hertfordshire. When a chemical or biological attack happens, the authorities need to know the best way to respond to it. Matar conducts high-level toxicology analysis to see how toxic agents are spread in the real world by simulating them first in the laboratory.
Matar has worked with the US Department of Defense to produce guidelines that help them to respond rapidly and effectively to terrorist attacks involving chemical and biological weapons and other agents.
This short film for the Royal Society of Chemistry Toxicology Group sees Matar talking about how he first got interested in a career in chemistry and toxicology, how it has progressed and how others can explore similar careers.
