Colorado's Wet Mountains are a small sister range of the Sangre de Cristos and are located near the town of Rye. They are a prominent mountain range when viewed from I-25 as it heads north of Raton Pass towards the Front Range towns like Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, etc., rising almost 8,000' over Pueblo, CO. By Colorado standards, a 12,000' peak is trivial in elevation, but the prominence, isolation, and historical significance of this mountain range make it worth a visit.
As a disclaimer, the historical information in this video is based on my reading Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne, which I haven't read in 18 months and was from the library, so I could not consult the book while preparing for this hike. I refreshed my memory with Wikipedia articles, so if you want to correct the record, feel free to leave a comment!

I did make a copy+paste error in ascribing 1000’-prominence status to Ute Mountain, which actually has 2000’+ of prominence.
