Описание: In today’s episode, I’m diving into the recent interview between Ruslan KD and filmmaker Nathan Apffel—and we’re going to talk honestly about it.

Nathan Apffel, creator of The Religion Business, is someone who has spent years documenting the darker side of modern church systems. Corruption, financial abuse, manufactured spiritual experiences, and the quiet damage that institutional religion leaves behind. Whether you agree with him or not, his work deserves the dignity of being understood before being critiqued.

But here’s the underlying problem with this interview:
Ruslan never even watched Nathan’s documentary before interviewing him.
He admits this openly. And that single decision ends up shaping the entire tone of their conversation.
The reason this matters is because when you don’t engage with someone’s work, you can’t engage with their heart.
• Failing to watch Nathan's documentary showed a huge lack of respect for Nathan’s work by someone who knows how hard it is to create something that makes an impact.
• This revealed a much deeper problem: defending the institution before listening to the actual stories of those harmed by it
• Ruslan prematurely formed an opinion about Nathan and how he's acting out of "Church Hurt" before the conversation even started and it shows Ruslan's lack of integrity. I have to wonder how many other people Ruslan has dismissed under the stereotype of "Church Hurt".
• Christians should be the first to interrogate systems, not protect them
• Ruslan’s posture reflects a broader pattern in modern Christian influencers who seem more interested in defending “the church brand” than hearing from the wounded within it.
This isn’t about attacking Ruslan. I’m not questioning his faith or his sincerity.
What I am doing is questioning the way he handled a conversation with someone who’s trying to expose real, systemic problems in the church. Problems that desperately need to be addressed, not brushed aside.
As someone who stands on the same side of the fence as Nathan, calling out religious manipulation, abusive systems, and the industries that form around faith, I can fully respect the work he's doing and the conversation he's trying to take to the main stream.
So, if you care about accountability in the church, truth over image and actually listening to people who’ve been hurt…Then this episode is for you.
