Join me as I climb out of Langton Matravers, pass the iconic Corfe Castle, and take a very hilly—but beautiful—alternative route to the Sandbanks Ferry. After a windy ride along Bournemouth’s golden sands, I’m back in the New Forest for a stormy night in the tent.

DCM & Health Journey: In July 2018, I contracted severe sepsis shock and was placed in an induced coma. But after spending six weeks in the care of my local hospital. Where I also had a temporary hip fitted, I was allowed home. Since contracting sepsis, I have spent a lot of time in and out of hospital with various ailments. And in May 2023, I was diagnosed with Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM), which causes narrowing of the cervical spinal canal, leading to chronic spinal cord compression and resultant neurologic disability. And if that wasn’t enough, I have ongoing hip problems, which has resulted in multiple operations. But I’m still smiling and cycling. And continue riding my bike and touring as much as possible.
