CART went bankrupt following the 2003 season, but three team owners, Paul Gentilozzi (Rocketsports), Gerald Forsythe (Forsythe Racing), and Kevin Kalkhoven (PKV Racing) bought CART's assets and rebranded it as the Champ Car World Series. Two of these teams proved successful, as Rocketsports and Alex Tagliani won their first ever race, while Forsythe won multiple races with Paul Tracy and Patrick Carpentier. However, the real star of the season was Newman/Haas Racing. Veteran Bruno Junqueira was extremely consistent, scoring 2 wins en route to runner-up in the championship. However, his performance was nothing compared to sophomore teammate Sebastien Bourdais, who won a whopping 7 races en route to his first Champ Car title.
