First Generation

The 1st generation of the Sorento began in 2002 and continued for about seven years until 2009. The construction of the Sorento was based on the body-on-frame construction type of a truck. These were front-engine cars that equipped only a rear-wheel-drive variant. Some also have the option to switch from rear-wheel-drive to 4-wheel-drive.

There are three different variations of engines found in the 1st generation Sorento:

A 140 hp 2.4 Litre I-4 Engine
A 3.5 Litre V6 engine, which could generate up to 235 hp.
A 263 hp 3.8 Litre V6 engine
The Transmissions available in this generation are:

1. 4-speed automatic
5-speed manual
5-speed automatic
Second Generation

The second generation of the Sorento lasted from about 2011 to 2015. These were also front-engine vehicles with a Unibody Crossover and Front-Wheel-Drive. Certain trims of the second generation were also fitted with an All-Wheel-Drive version, apart from the standard Front-wheel-drive. The seating capacity also rose from five to seven.

The engines of this second generation received an upgrade too. The number of variants thereby increased to four. They are as follows:

2.4 Litre L-4 Engine delivering 175 horsepower.
2.4 Litre L-4 Engine with 191 horsepower.
3.3 Litre V-6 Engine producing 290 horsepower.
A 3.5 Litre V-6 Engine supplying 276 horsepower.
The transmissions available in this generation are:

5-speed manual
6-speed manual
5-speed automatic
6-speed automatic

Third Generation

The third generation of the Sorento lasted from 2015 until 2020. The seating space remained the same as the previous iteration. The number of engines available has also reduced:

2.4 Litre l-4 engine, with 185 hp of power.
2. 3.3 L V6 engine, with 290 hp of power.
The transmissions available in this variant are a 6-speed automatic with Sportmatic and 8-speed automatic. Both are quite powerful and serve their purpose well.
